The Dietz Little Wizard camping lantern marks the final painting in my series of antique lanterns and flashlights. Worn from years of use, its battered metal, countless dings, and cracked glass hint at a lifetime of camping adventures and nights spent outdoors.
Every imperfection seems to tell a story, with the cracked glass alone suggesting a thousand words that might have been handwritten in an old field notes journal.
Capturing the character of this well-traveled lantern made it a fitting conclusion to a collection celebrating the beauty, utility, and history of everyday objects that have always fascinated me. Finishing the Little Wizard brings a bittersweet sense of accomplishment, closing an important chapter in my return to painting while leaving me excited to explore new subjects, discover their stories, and begin the next series.
