Garry

There’s something wonderfully cheerful about this brown bear, whose relaxed, almost joyful expression makes him seem more interested in making friends than intimidating anyone. His warm, golden fur contrasts with the soft baby blue sky behind him, creating a bright, welcoming portrait that emphasizes his easygoing personality.

That unexpected friendliness was what drew me to paint him in the first place.

Bears are often portrayed as fierce and imposing, but this one seems perfectly content just enjoying the moment. The name “Garry” came from a childhood memory of one of my brother’s neighborhood friends, whose personality somehow came to mind while looking at this bear. The spelling might be a little different, but the association stuck. Sometimes a painting’s personality is so familiar that giving it a name feels like recognizing an old friend.
