A thick coat of fur, a dusting of snow, and an expression of complete indifference give this massive grizzly bear a personality all his own. Staring directly at the viewer, he seems to be asking, “This snow doesn’t bother me. Does it bother you?”
There’s something amusing about that quiet confidence, especially when the rest of us would probably be looking for somewhere warm to hide.
The snow settling across his head and shoulders creates an interesting contrast against the rich browns of his fur, emphasizing both his size and his remarkable adaptation to the elements. Painting “Grizzly Snow” was an opportunity to capture a different kind of personality, one defined not by aggression or curiosity, but by complete composure. Cold, snow, and winter weather are simply part of his world, and he couldn’t seem less concerned.
