You Can’t See Me

“You Can’t See Me” is a portrait of a young black bear cub hiding among a tangle of branches and pine needles, seemingly convinced that nobody could possibly spot him. His bright, curious eyes peek through the foliage, while the vibrant greens surrounding him create a lively contrast against his dark fur.

What drew me to this particular bear was his expression and the almost comical confidence of his hiding place.

There’s a wonderful arrogance to youth, that belief that being clever enough to hide behind a few branches makes you completely invisible. Capturing that playful personality became the heart of this painting, with the greenery framing his face and drawing attention to those unmistakable eyes. Beneath the innocence is a little mischief, a little attitude, and the kind of bold confidence that makes young animals so endlessly entertaining to watch.
