The Small Red Scout Lantern caught my attention with its vibrant red paint, patches of rust, and an old Boy Scouts sticker still clinging to its surface. Despite the years of wear, the color remains surprisingly bold, creating an interesting contrast between its cheerful appearance and the signs of a well-used life.
That little sticker adds another layer of character, making me wonder about the camping trips, outdoor adventures, and young scouts who may have carried it along the way.
Painting this lantern was particularly enjoyable in the final stages, bringing out the details, refining the glow of the bulb, and reworking the shadow more than a few times before it felt right. There’s something satisfying about giving a small, weathered object this much attention. Finishing it left me with the familiar challenge of choosing which lantern to paint next.
